Healthy Travel Tips Part 3 — Diet and Exercise
This is the final part of my three-part series on healthy travel tips. In this series, I’ve given you practical solutions that you can implement to make the most of your trip. And so that when you come home, you feel energized and fantastic, and not as if you need another vacation to recover.
Part one was about maintaining healthy circulation on the flight or road trip to reduce the risk of dangerous blood clots and to arrive at your destination with more energy. Part two was about natural ways to get over jet lag faster. This blog is all about maintaining healthy habits while traveling.
1. Don’t Put Your Diet on Vacation
The first thing is not to abandon your diet. People often get to their destination and see it as an excuse to throw it all out the window.
Don’t make that mistake. When you eat healthy, which I hope you’re consciously doing at home, you have more energy and a better mood. When you eat healthy, you’ll feel better and enjoy yourself more.
But that doesn’t mean you have to give up enjoying yourself on the trip. Find a day during your vacation and designate it as your cheat day. Just let yourself eat whatever you want.
On the other days, however, stick to your healthy eating that you hopefully have already been working on back home. If you want to get a dessert, great. You’re on vacation. But instead of eating the entire dessert yourself, share one with someone else. Or have just a few bites instead of an entire one yourself.
2. Eat to Kill Carb Cravings
If you’re craving carbs while out, order protein and veggies. That will be one of the best ways to kill those carb cravings while you’re out. It also is better at helping you control your blood sugar.
3. Use an App
Find healthy restaurants and look through their menu in advance. Find foods that look delicious and healthy to give you the meal and experience that you want.
4. Get Up and Move
Use the gym or get up early and go for a brisk walk. Exercise improves your circulation, gets blood flowing to your brain and throughout your body, and improves mood. Often, people use vacations as an excuse to lie around. Work exercise into your day, even for 15 or 20 minutes.
5. Drink in Moderation
And the last thing I’m going to say is don’t drink too much alcohol because that can wreck your blood sugar. I mentioned alcohol in both Parts one and two of this travel series. When you drink too much alcohol, it makes you crave more sugar. So if you want to have a drink, enjoy, but if you start getting drunk, your sugar cravings can go up, and your ability to make good choices goes down. And that’s a recipe for leaving you regretting more than just the alcohol the next day and for feeling sluggish and crummy.
When you implement these tips, you’ll maximize your fun, your time, and your energy while you’re away. You’ll also get your money’s worth on what I hope is an amazing trip.

Fructose Causes Alzheimer’s Disease
Fructose is a sugar naturally found in fruit. When consumed in whole foods, the amount of fructose is relatively small and fiber in the food slows down how quickly the fructose is absorbed into the body and bloodstream. But in the last several decades, fructose has become a ubiquitous, inexpensive sugar used to sweeten packaged foods. A new study links fructose consumption and Alzheimer’s disease.
